Rep. Clyburn: ‘I Don’t Know’ if Clarence Thomas Is an Uncle Tom

‘All of us have ways of expressing our disappointments; I am very disappointed in Clarence Thomas’

Clyburn: ‘I Don’t Know’ if Clarence Thomas is an Uncle Tom (Washington Free Beacon)

Rep. James Clyburn (D., S.C.) would not criticize fellow Democrat Rep. Benny Thompson’s (D., Miss.) remarks about black Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas being an “Uncle Tom” Friday on Morning Joe, only saying Thompson was a friend and that he was also “disappointed” in Thomas.

Host Joe Scarborough pressed Clyburn repeatedly on the issue, but Clyburn could only offer that he “didn’t know” if Thomas was an “Uncle Tom,” a derogatory term for African Americans viewed as betraying their race.
