Stewart Blasts Social Security for Seizing Tax Refunds To Pay Debts Parents Owed

Stewart Takes On All the ‘Sh*t’ the Gov’t Screwed Up This Week (Mediaite)

Jon Stewart had to bring out a giant freakin’ swear jar Wednesday night just to deal with all the government incompetence in the news this week, from the IRS to the Social Security Administration to the Arizona VA. Stewart mocked the IRS workers who, it turns out, owe back taxes to… the IRS. Now, granted, it’s only one percent of the IRS workforce, which sounds low, but Stewart pointed out it’s “quite high when you take into account it’s the IRS.”

Stewart also ripped the Social Security Administration for seizing people’s tax refunds, years and years after the fact. They quickly ended the seizures because, as Stewart put it, “Nothing brings about the raising of consciousness like people finding out about the shit you’re doing.”
