Andrea Mitchell: Obama’s Delay of Keystone XL Pipeline Is ‘Pure Politics’

‘Andrea ... it’s very hard to see how this is anything but that’

Andrea Mitchell: Obama’s Keystone Postponement Is ‘Pure Politics’ (Mediaite)

MSNBC host Andrea Mitchell weighed in with her thoughts on Monday regarding the latest postponement of the administration’s final decision on whether or not to build the Keystone XL Pipeline. Mitchell said that the delay, which likely moves the final decision until after the 2014 midterm elections, is “pure politics.”

Mitchell began by noting that a variety of studies, including one conducted by the State Department, concluded the pipeline’s environmental impact would be negligible. She added that the government’s decision to release the news of the latest delay late on a Friday afternoon on Easter weekend struck her as political in nature.

The Washington Post‘s Chris Cillizza noted that he is biased toward seeing events through a political lens, but he added that it is hard not to see this latest delay in that vein.
