Obama on Global Economy: ‘We Must Work Together to Ensure the Benefits Are Broadly Shared’

Pushing back against "far right" movements that are pushing "aggressive nationalism," President Obama told the United Nations Tuesday that the world must instead become more integrated. More, Obama called for the "benefits" of the global economy to be "broadly shared" across international lines.

"Moreover, I believe the acceleration of travel and telecommunications, together with a global economy that depends on a global supply chain makes it self-defeating ultimately from those who seek to reverse the progress. Today a nation’s by walls would only envision itself. So the answer cannot be a simple projection of global integration. Instead, we must work together to ensure the benefits are broadly shared, and that the disruptions, economic, political, and cultural that are caused by integration are squarely addressed."
