This weekend, Sarah Palin closed out CPAC with a tour de force performance that was more stand-up routine than political speech and included a parody of Dr. Seuss’ Green Eggs and Ham lifted directly from a four-year-old chain email. None of this was lost on MSNBC’s Chris Matthews, who showed some highlights from Palin’s speech before sharing his review of it.

Matthews was particular offended by one of Palin’s applause-break-inducing lines that concerned the possibility of nuclear way between the U.S. and Russia. “Mr. President, the only thing that stops a bad guy with a nuke is a good guy with a nuke,” Palin told the crowd to thunderous applause.

“I grew up hiding under a desk as a school kid because of a threat of a nuclear war between U.S. and the Soviet Union,” Matthews said, “and for somebody to laugh about nuclear confrontation, and then to applaud it — what planet do these people live on, these fullmooners at CPAC?”

“Someone should tell Governor Palin that nuclear war is not a metaphor for manhood,” he said before ending the segment. “It’s insanity.”
