Bin Laden Raid Architect: ‘The Last Thing He Saw Was an American’

‘I’m sure he probably didn’t know it was a SEAL, which was fine by us’

Bin Laden Raid Architect: ‘The Last Thing He Saw Was an American, That’s What’s Important’ (Mediaite)

One very fascinating part of CNN’s We Got Him Osama bin Laden raid documentary tonight––marking exactly five years since the terrorist leader was finally eliminated––was the bit that focused on bin Laden’s final moments.

Ex-Navy Admiral William McRaven, considered the “architect” of the raid, revealed to CNN’s Peter Bergen that the mission had not been considered a “straight-to-kill mission.” He said if bin Laden’s hands had been up and they were sure he didn’t have a suicide vest on, SEAL Team Six was told “you have an obligation to capture him.”

Bergen wondered why bin Laden didn’t fight back before remarking, “As a SEAL yourself, it must give you a sense of satisfaction to know that the last thing he saw on this earth was a SEAL.”
