Fournier: With ‘Stroke of the Pen, Obama Can Free’ 1,000s of Blacks Jailed Under Crime Bill

Liberal columnist Ron Fournier today challenged President Obama to free thousands of black men currently imprisoned as a result of the Clinton crime bill's crack/cocaine sentencing disparity. 

"There are now tens of thousands of African Americans who are in jail right now under sentences that have been rolled back by Congress because the crack — cocaine disparity," Fournier said. "But they’re still in jail because they weren’t grandfathered. With the stroke of the pen, President Obama can free them, but for some reason hasn’t."

"There’s thousands of African Americans who are in jail under this old crime bill that now the Democratic Party is abhorrent to," he continued, "but the Democratic liberal president for some reason hasn’t used his clemency powers."
