Sessions: Trump ‘Resonating’ with Voters on Issues of Immigration and Trade

‘They want a trade policy that protects American manufacturing and jobs and they don’t think that’s happening’

DOOCY: “Last night was a big night for Donald Trump. And joining us right now is one man who recently endorsed him, Alabama Senator Jeff Sessions joins us from Capitol Hill. Good morning to you sir.”
SESSIONS: “Hi, Steve. Good to be with you.”
DOOCY: “And great to have you. Speaking of your great state, last night Donald Trump beat Ted Cruz, he came in second. Trump had 43, Cruz had 21, he beats him by let’s see, 22 points. Why did Trump thump Cruz in Alabama?”
SESSIONS: “Well, I think — people care about what’s happening. I really believe that what’s happening, this almost movement that I’ve referred to out there is that the American people are hurting. Particularly lower income, the $50,000 a year person and below. Their wages have not gone up, they’re down — the percentage of Americans that actually working today is down. And so, they believe we need a lawful system of immigration, that politicians have promised, 50 years, 30 years for to do and have never done it. They want a trade policy that protects American manufacturing and jobs and I don’t think that’s happening. And I think Trump is resonating with both of those issues, because it’s a pocketbook issue.”
DOOCY: “Sure.”
SESSIONS: “And it brings in new people onto the Republican Party.”
