Schmidt: Rubio ‘Cannot Afford to Lose’ Florida and ‘Hope’ to Run for President Again

‘I think an incumbent United States senator in his 40s cannot afford to lose his home state in a presidential contest’

RUSH TRANSCRIPT:
GEIST: "Mark said something else earlier, Steve which is, if it gets too far out of hand Marco Rubio may not even run in the state of Florida. He doesn’t want to suffer an embarrassing defeat in his home state. Do you believe that to be true?"
SCHMIDT: "I think an incumbent United States senator in his 40s cannot afford to lose his home state in a presidential contest and have any hope in the future of being elected governor of that state, running for president again. The truth is that most Republican nominees, with the exception of George W. Bush, who have been around a lot of presidential campaigns, they don’t make it through the process their first time. Marco Rubio has a lot of track in front of him in his career, but he loses his home state in a presidential contest, that track is shortened for all time. He becomes the guy who lost his home state."
