Steve King Defends Tweet About Carson Dropping Out

RUSH TRANSCRIPT:

MACCALLUM: “In terms of what happened in Iowa in your home state. You put out a tweet about been Carson. That kind of stuff is powerful in social media. But that’s sort of the initial seed about the controversy between you guys and Donald Trump. He believes if that hadn’t happened he would have won in Iowa. Do you feel your campaign, the Cruz campaign needs to be more careful about this stuff?”
KING: “I would say first what I put out was a tweet that said off of CNN’s news story, that said that Carson was going to skip New Hampshire, skip South Carolina and go to Florida for R & R. I said that’s the equivalent of suspending. And I said it looks like Carson is out. If I had said it looks like in, it would have been dishonest. This story started from Carson’s campaign. I talked to Ben Carson and the two people with him who were involved in this. It started with Carson’s campaign. CNN picked this up. Report wad they had for the news. So all that ted Cruz’s team did was transfer the information. Now the allegation is that is a lie. There is nothing either Donald Trump or Marco Rubio can point top that is dishonest at all.”
MACCALLUM: “There is another story, this Trey Gowdy Facebook story, there is a Facebook story circulating that appears to be Trey Gowdy’s Facebook page saying I’m not going to support Ted Cruz and Trey Gowdy is incensed. He wants Ted Cruz and his campaign to come out publicly regardless of whether they had input into this Facebook page and denounce what it says.”
KING: “I think that would be fine. I wouldn’t expect something like that would be true at all. I know Trey Gowdy and Marco Rubio and Tim Scott. Anybody who would see a Facebook page like that should think it is false. We also had a story yesterday that the senator from Oklahoma said he didn’t believe ted cruz was honest and that turned out to be a hoax. So this is going back and forth. There are dirty politics down here. Also Trey Gowdy has a row beau call that goats out that at the very best implies there is a dishonesty in Ted Cruz and he’s linked to robocalls that are dishonest robocalls. If that’s the case they are coming out of somebody’s Super PAC. They can’t be linked by law. I think I would like to edit Trey Gowdy’s statement and pull that Facebook page down because I think it’s dishonest. I think the tom co-burn col burn page has been take down.”
