Joni Ernst: Voters Don’t Feel Like They Are Being Heard

‘People are just upset, they think that the government should move a lot faster than t does’

RUSH TRANSCRIPT:

RATTNER: “You said earlier it’s important to people in Iowa to get to know the candidate and to get to know their policies and you just said you don’t feel like you understand trump’s policies and we also know that trump has spent less time in this state I think than any of the other ten major candidates. How do you account for how well he’s doing in the polls?”
ERNST: “I think people are so angry, they are frustrated —“
RATTNER: “But you have an approval rate of under 4 percent.”
ERNST: “It is under 4 percent, and they —“
RATTNER: “So, what are they angry and frustrated about?”
ERNST: “— They don’t feel like they are being heard. If you look at national defense it’s a mixed bag out there. People are just upset. They think the government should move a lot faster than it does and I do feel that frustration as well. We’ll see if that translates into votes tonight.”
SCARBOROUGH: “Senator, would you be disappointed if Donald Trump won tonight, disappointed in what that says about the Iowa caucus and the Iowa voters?”
ERNST: “No, I won’t be disappointed because I think the Iowa folks they understand that this is a stepping point, there are a number of other states yet to go, but they are going to express how they feel in that vote tonight and they have every right to express their vote in whatever manner they choose. They’re going to get out there tonight, they’re going to caucus and let’s see how it turns out.”
BRZEZINSKI: “Senator Joni Ernst, well played.”
SCARBOROUGH: “All right.”
ERNST: “Thank you.”
BRZEZINSKI: “Thank you very much for being on. NBC’s Chris Jansing, that was a fine line. Thank you, Chris, as well.”
