Ed Henry: Clinton Wants More Debates Because She’s in Defense Against Sanders

‘They actually thinks debates might actually help her at this point’

JARRETT: “Democrats seem to be having some debate drama of their own, right?”
HENRY: “That’s right. You remember where all of this started, with the Democratic National Committee really limiting the number of debates, making sure of them run on weekends at hot times, where less people saw them than certainly seen the Republican debates. But what’s interesting now, NBC trying to work with the union leader in Manchester on a new debate, February 4th, in New Hampshire, after the caucuses and before the big primary obviously in the granite state. But so far, we’ve got Hillary Clinton says she is in, Martin O’Malley saying he is in. Bernie Sanders sauce they’re looking at it. But the DNC is saying they will not sanction this as an official Democratic debate. I think the very bottom line after they get through all the back and forth is, the Clinton camp started wanting to limiting — limit the number of these debates. Now they want to have more debates, because she is in a much more defensive position right now and they actually think debates might help her at this point, Gregg.”
JARRETT: “All right. Ed Henry in Adel, Iowa. Ed, thanks very much.”
HENRY: “Great to see you.”
