Rick Davis: Trump Not Getting the Scrutiny other Frontrunners Have Received

‘He calls into Sunday shows, nobody is afforded this kind of opportunity’

RUSH TRANSCRIPT:

ROSE: “Rick Davis was campaign manager for John McCain’s 2008 bid and now a political contributor with our digital network CBSN. Rick, good morning.”
DAVIS: “Good morning.”
ROSE: “Lots of questions about motivation and why one person is doing this.”
DAVIS: “Sure.”
ROSE: “But who wins?”
DAVIS: “Well, right now, I think the team of candidates who are going to be on that stage could be the winners. If they tee on off on Trump in his absence, I think they could make some ground up.
O’DONNELL: “Megyn Kelly started her show last night saying Trump is used to being in charge because of his own organization but she says he doesn’t get to control the media.”
DAVIS: “Well, he has, though. I mean, when you look at the conduct of the media toward Trump, he has not gotten scrutiny that all other front-runners in a Republican nomination have over time. And believe me, been around so long, I’ve seen them over time. He doesn’t get the scrutiny. He is allowed to getting away to doing things with the media like others aren’t.”
O’DONNELL: “Like what?”
DAVIS: “How many times do the media allow him to call into TV shows? The Sunday shows, the bread and butter, he calls into Sunday shows. Nobody is afforded this kind of opportunity.”
KING: “That hasn’t happened here. We have extended an invitation many times that we want him live and color in the studio.”
DAVIS: “He is only a few blocks away.”
KING: “We could throw a rock and hit him. In his statement there he talks about press releases written by a child. This is from the Trump camp. Roger Ailes and FOX News think they can toy with him but Mr. Trump doesn’t play games. Does this hurt him, Rick, I’m not showing up because I don’t want to?”
DAVIS: “I think the gross inconsistencies are starting to show up. Franklin the more attention and scrutiny he gets the more inconsistent he is. Yesterday, maybe I will, maybe I won’t don’t know what I’m going to do. His campaign manager says believes what he said. I don’t know what he said.”
O’DONNELL: “A front-runner picking a fight with FOX news channel in which FOX said he is terrorizing one of his employees is a strong charge.”
DAVIS: “But a new charge. Look what happened last time he got into a fight with Megyn Kelly. The FOX people went over their way to try to make sure everyone is happy and they don’t want insult Trump and left Megyn out hanging a couple of days.”
