Rand Not Worried About Challenge for Senate Seat by Democrat Mayor

‘I’m happy to run on my record and I think that people of Kentucky will respond accordingly’

MACCALLUM: “About a half an hour ago some news crossed the wires that said that you’re going to have a challenge from Democrat, the mayor of Lexington, Jim Gray in your Senate race. Your reaction to that, senator?”
PAUL: “You know I’ve worked very hard for the voters of Kentucky, the taxpayers of Kentucky. I show up for work every day. I’m a hard of had working senator. I’ve actually returned nearly $2 million to the treasury by not spending into my own office budget. I’m probably the leading proponent of balancing budget up here, protecting people’s civil liberties. I’m happy to run on my record and I think that people of Kentucky will respond accordingly.”
MACCALLUM: “What do you say to those who have said, you know, that you should be focusing on in that Senate race? They do not want to lose another Republican in the Senate, perhaps at the expense of your presidential campaign?”
PAUL: “You know, I do pay attention every day. If you look at people running for president in the Senate I have the highest voting record. In fact, my voting record is well up in the 90s. I do a good job every day representing people of Kentucky. I become a big voice for people of Kentucky on the national stage. And so, I think actually if I’m running for president I [indecipherable] Kentucky even a bigger voice while doing my day job. I think I’ll be rewarded for being a hard-working senator who’s actually returned nearly $2 million to the taxpayer.”
MACCALLUM: “All right. Senator Rand Paul, thank you for being with us today. Good to see you, sir.”
PAUL: “Thank you.”
