Todd: Dems Using Socialism Against Sanders Not a ‘Winning Argument in Iowa’

‘This isn’t a winning argument in Iowa right now’

GUTHRIE: “Chuck Todd is here. NBC’s political director and moderator of ‘Meet the Press,’ Chuck, good morning.”
TODD: “Good morning.”
GUTHRIE: “In a sense I’m surprised that took so long for the socialism argument to really be out in front and center. You saw Claire McCaskill a senator from Missouri saying, you can imagine Republicans running a ‘Hammer and Sickle’ ad. Is this a winning strategy for Clinton’s campaign?”
TODD: “Right now, I don’t know. I think in the long run, when you start getting more states involved, yes, it’s possible, when you start focusing the electorate on that. But, let me tell you something about the Iowa Democratic Caucus electorate, and one register poll asked Iowa Democrats whether the word ‘socialist’ or ‘capitalist’ most describes them. Forty-three percent of the Democrats in Iowa said — they’re identified as socialist, just 38 percent identified as capitalist. So, this isn’t — I think a winning argument in Iowa right now.”
