Obama: My Biggest Regret Is ‘that Politics Has Become More Rancorous’ During My Term

‘Keep in mind, when I ran, my belief was there were no red states and blue states’

OBAMA: "All right. Go ahead."
STERLING: “Good morning."
OBAMA: "Good morning."
STERLING: “This is a pleasure, sir."
OBAMA: "Thank you."
STERLING: “My name is Tremane Sterling. I’m from Baton Rouge, Louisiana. During your entire two terms as president, what would be your biggest regret and why?”
OBAMA: “I think that’s a great question although had you been watching my State of the Union on Tuesday — (Applause) -- he might had known that I actually already answered that question. But that’s OK. I’m sure there was a good ballgame on that night. No. What I told the country, except for you — (Laughter) -- was that my biggest regret was the fact that politics has become more rancorous during my term and more polarized then it was when I came in. Keep in mind, when I ran, my belief was there were no red states and blue states, that there were no black, or white, Latino Americans. There was a United States of America. And that continues to be my belief.”
