Cillizza: ‘Bill Clinton in the Campaign’ Partly Responsible for Sanders in Range in Iowa

‘Because nothing else really has changed’

MITCHELL: “Joining me now for our daily fix, Chris Cilizza, MSNBC'S contributor and founder of the Fix blog; Julie Pace, White House correspondent, Associated Press, and our own MSNBC political correspondent  Kasie Hunt, here in New York. Well, first to you Chris Cillizza, any time Hillary Clinton laughs that way, sometimes —“
CILIZZA: “Yes.”
MITCHELL: “-- you wonder is it the Kate McKinnon, or Amy Poehler, or Hillary Clinton laughed; was she’s uncomfortable with the question.”
CILIZZA: “Talk about the trademark laugh and yes. I mean, I think she does that to sort of say, well, you know, no big deal here. But look. She doesn’t want to talk about her husband’s past indiscretions. Frankly, from a political or personal level, I get both of those things. I do, however, think if you’re trying to understand why all of a sudden is Bernie Sanders in range in Iowa when he hadn’t been, in range nationally at least in the CBS 'New York Times' poll when he hadn’t been ahead in New Hampshire by margin between 3 and 14 points depending on the poll you look at, it’s hard to see what it is, Andrea, unless it’s the insertion of Bill Clinton in the campaign. Donald Trump has attached to what Bernie Sanders has said about Hillary Clinton. Because nothing else really has changed. It has to be at least a factor here. And I think Hillary Clinton knows it is a factor."
