‘—Protecting our kids from gun violence’

RUSH TRANSCRIPT:
BARACK OBAMA: "Mr. Speaker, I appreciate the constructive approach that you and other leaders took at the end of last year to pass a budget, and make tax cuts permanent for working families. I hope that we can work together this year on some bipartisan priorities, like terminal justice reform. [Applause] And helping people who are battling prescription drug abuse, and heroine abuse. [Applause] Who knows -- we might surprise them again. But tonight, I want to go easy on the traditional list of proposals to the your head -- for the year ahead. Don't or a, I have plenty, from helping students write computer code, and I will keep pushing for progress on the work that I believe still needs to be done. Fixing a broken immigration system. [Applause] Protecting our kids from gun violence. [Applause] Equal pay for equal work. Paid leave. Raising the minimum wage. [Applause] All of these things, all of these things still matter to hard-working families."
