Jay Carney Calls Awful ObamaCare Youth Enrollment ‘Solid News’

‘It is a simple statement of observed fact and experience ... that young people are last to the party’

White House Calls Terrible Obamacare Youth Enrollment ‘Solid News’ (Washington Free Beacon)

White House press secretary Jay Carney proudly announced that the terribly low Obamacare youth enrollment is ‘solid news,’ despite the fact that the youth enrollment number fell drastically short of the Obama administration’s target at Thursday’s White House Briefing.

Only twenty-four percent of the 2.2 million people who have signed up for Obama’s signature healthcare policy are between the target audience of 18-34 year olds. The administration had anticipated that the youth enrollment rate would be near 40 percent.

High youth enrollment is necessary because younger, healthier enrollees will subsidize the costs of elderly, more sickness prone adults. Current Obamacare rules do not allow insurers to charge sick people higher rates and forces them to limit the cost premium they can assign to older policyholders.
