Buckley: ‘We Would Be in Very Good Hands with a President Jeb Bush’

‘Jeb Bush is good, capable, hardworking guy’

SCARBOROUGH: “[Let’s briefly talk about] the Republican party if we can. I remember you and I both in 2006 wrote stories for the Washington monthly, it’s time for us to go because we were so disgusted with our Republican Party. And then you famously came out and endorsed President Obama two years later.”
BUCKLEY: “Senator Obama.”
SCARBOROUGH: “Then senator Obama to become President Obama. But things haven’t gotten better over the past intervening eight years have they?"
BUCKLEY: “You mean where the Republican Party was?"
SCARBOROUGH: “Yeah."
BUCKLEY: “Well, I mean, look, there are a number of talented Republicans running.”
SCARBOROUGH: “Right.”
BUCKLEY: “They each seem to have — I mean, if you removed Donald Trump -- oh Lord, hear my words -- (Laughter) -- if you removed, went back and retroactively removed Donald Trump from this lineup, who do you think would be leading the pack now? It’s hard to say. One feels for poor Jeb Bush. The word 'poor' has now become sort of permanently annexed to  --; I mean, Jeb Bush is a good, decent, capable, hard working guy --"
SCARBOROUGH: “One of the brightest--"
BUCKLEY: "He’s one of the brightest. I think we would be in very good hands with a president Jeb Bush. He is not, as we found out, a gifted campaigner.”
BARNICLE: “You encounter people, you ask people what do you think of [indecipherable] this guy, that guy. What about Jeb Bush? Oh, poor Jeb Bush. He’s gone as soon as they put 'poor' in front of his name.”
BUCKLEY: “It’s a hard word to shock. But where we are now versus where we assumed we would be six months ago proves the wisdom of two sayings. One that a week in American politics is an eternity and the Yiddish proverb, want to make God laugh? Tell him your plans. And here we are.”
SCARBOROUGH: “Thank you so much for being with us, Christopher. We love having you here. And 'The Relic Master,' a fetch and fetching cover. It looks great.” [crosstalk]
BUCKLEY: “And attractively priced. Note if you buy it in Canada, it costs $8 more.”
SCARBOROUGH: “Good to know.”
BUCKLEY: “So do not drive over the border to Toronto to buy it there.”
SCARBOROUGH: “We will stay here and I’ll get these for all my kids. It will be sure to be a best seller. Greatly appreciated”
