Ohio A.G.: Fetal Remains Found in Ohio Landfills Amid P. Parenthood Investigation

‘I don’t think there are too many Ohioans who would say that’s a humane way to dispose of the aborted fetuses’

RUSH TRANSCRIPT:

MACCALLUM: “Attorney general of Ohio is take on Planned Parenthood. The investigation showed Planned Parenthood in Ohio wasn’t properly disposing the remains from abortions and duffel ling them in landfills instead. But Planned Parenthood says that’s not true and they are now suing. There is a law from 1975 that requires a fetus shall be disposed of in a humane manner and you claim that’s not what’s happening.”
DEWINE: “As a result of the investigation that we did, we found this is how aborted fetuses are being disposed of. They are taken and put in an autoclave system which is high pressure and hot steam. Then they are taken to a landfill in Kentucky and dumped in that landfill. Ohio law says they have to be disposed of humanely. I don’t think there are too many Ohioans who would say that’s a humane way to dispose of the aborted fetuses. We think they are in violation of the law and they should change what they are doing.”
MACCALLUM: “They  believe you are coming after them to shut them down and this is one of the steps you are taking to do this. They say these new allegations by the attorney general are flat out false. Our agreements with vendors require them to follow state law and dispose of tissue you’ve accordingly. If they are not, then I’ll take swift action. What do you say?”
DEWINE: “Planned Parenthood’s own lawyers told us that’s how they are disposing of the fetuses. I have fetuses that end up in a landfill in Kentucky. Those are facts. Planned Parenthood always makes the allegation someone is trying to shut them down. That’s not the issue. The issue is, are they disposing of aborted fetuses in a humane way. I don’t think that is good.”
MACCALLUM: “It strikes me what this story and the investigation you have done, it sheds more light on the realities of this process which a lot of people don’t want to know more about because it’s very difficult to even think about. In many ways, you are saying it’s a landfill. They are saying the process they do before it gets there is humane. In my mind first and foremost is you are continuing to bring up something that is a reality that’s hard for a lot of people to deal with.”
DEWINE: “I think it is. The reality of abortion is horrible. It is what it is. And Planned Parenthood never wants to talk about that. They never want to talk about what the reality really is. The reality, I told people in the last few days what happens to aborted fetuses, you can see them pull back and, you know, so it does bring this reality home. The good thing — one good thing out of this, the 8 legislature is looking into this. There is an announcement that would define what they can do and can’t do and I think that is progress. “
MACCALLUM: “Attorney General Mike DeWine, thank you very much. Good to have you sir.”
DEWINE: “Thank you.”
