Christopher Buckley: Trump Believes His ‘Inflammatory, Disgraceful’ Rhetoric

‘Every time he says something, it drives up his ratings’

ROSE: “So, what do you think the Republicans are going to do? You think that they are after this most recent comments, somehow to try to come together and stop Trump?” 
BUCKLEY: “Well, you know, since for about five months now Mr. Trump has been making inflammatory, disgraceful comments. He’s — he maligned the war record of John McCain because he [indecipherable]. This was July and everyone in the room I’ve —“
KING: “Said, he’s over.”
BUCKLEY: “I was reading the newspaper said, oh, he’s finished. [crosstalk] Then he makes an insulting comment about Megyn Kelly which I wouldn’t even repeat on morning TV, and everyone thought well, you know, that’s the end of Donald Trump. And all it — every time he says something, it drives up his ratings.” 
ROSE: “Do you think he believes all this stuff?” 
BUCKLEY: “Yes.” 
ROSE: “He does.” 
BUCKLEY: “Yes. Yes, I do.”
KING: “All right.”
