Eugene Robinson: Trump ‘Is Doubling Down’ on His ‘Paranoid, Racist’ 9/11 Fantasy

‘It was a very weird episode that is kind of a sideshow to the main event, which is Trump doubling down on this paranoid, frankly, racist fantasy’

WAGNER: "I am joined now by MSNBC political analyst Eugene Robinson of 'The Washington Post,' as well as Heidi Przybyla with 'USA Today.' Eugene, why does Dr. Carson's campaign feel the need to walk this back, as Donald Trump seems like not cowed at all by his comments?"

ROBINSON: "Well, you know, Alex, I'm going to try to hear and think about your question, (Laughter) rather than something random that crosses my mind. You know, obviously, they walked it back because it's not true. It didn't happen. So, he couldn't have seen it, the film or the newsreel or whatever it was he thought for a minute that he saw, he couldn't possibly have seen. And maybe, just a little ray of reality penetrated that campaign and -- and they realized that, gee, you know, actually didn't happen this way. And, so he took it back. It was a very weird episode that is kind of a sideshow to the main event, which is Trump doubling down on this paranoid, frankly, racist fantasy."
