Speaker Ryan Calls for a Pause in Refugee Program

‘The responsible thing is to take a pause’

House sets up task force on Syrian resettlement plan (The Washington Examiner)

Members of the House Intelligence, Armed Services and Homeland Security panels will meet this week to come up with legislation the House will vote on by Thursday.

The plan was discussed in a closed-door meeting Tuesday morning with House Speaker Paul Ryan, R-Wis. It comes in response to a growing call from many GOP lawmakers to halt the president's resettlement plan out of concern it could import terrorists like those who carried out the deadly attacks in Paris on Friday.

"Our nation has always been welcoming but we cannot let terrorist take advantage of our compassion," Ryan said. "The responsible thing is to take a pause ... in order to verify that the terrorists are not trying to infiltrate the refugee program."
