John Fund: If Target Must Be Transparent About Hackers, So Must Obama

‘[The federal government] declared itself exempt, even though it was begged by security experts, please, alert people if there is a security breach’

WRIGHT: “And, John, why don't we know about hackers into HealthCare.gov?”
FUND: “It’s bizarre. Target, which had a big security breach last week, had to inform all of its 40 million customers. Some of the state health care exchanges have to inform their customers like Minnesota. But the federal government doesn't. It declared itself exempt, even though it was begged by security experts please, alert people if there is a security breach.”
WRIGHT: “All for good reasons; because people were putting their personal information on the line by enrolling through HealthCare.gov. So, is the government turning a blind eye to this?”
FUND: “Well, they are turning a blind eye to a lot. Last week we learned from the House Oversight Committee that Theresa Fryer, who is the chief information officer at the Centers for Medicaid and Medicare, they're the people who run the website, she refused to sign off on the security of the website, and her boss refused to sign off on it. They said it's not secure. Instead they launched on October 1st anyway. And the only political appointee at the Centers for Medicaid and Medicare was the one who actually had to sign the authorization to launch it.”
