The National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) recently took some heat for promoting a t-shirt in its online store that read, “Happy Holidays Is What Liberals Say.” As some followers pointed out, so do Jews.

So when CNN’s Dana Bash sat down with House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-VA), who just happens to be the highest-ranking Jewish Republican in Washington, she asked him if the slogan “offends” him.

Cantor tried to laugh the whole thing off, telling Bash, “Look, it’s the holiday season. I celebrate Hanukkah. People wish me happy Hanukkah, I wish people merry Christmas, happy new year.” When she asked him he thinks only “liberals” say “happy holidays,” he said, “we should all, like, not take ourselves too seriously here and just enjoy the holiday season.”
