Tarana Burke: You’d Never See Black Women in #MeToo with How the Media Framed It

‘There was work that was being done by black women and other marginalized women that predates it’

EXCERPT:

BURKE: "The people who define this movement by how the media framed it, you will never find us there. Before #MeToo became the hashtag and all the rest of that, it was going all the way back to Rosa Parks and even before that. There was work that was being done by black women and other marginalized women that predates me, and nobody was thinking about us at all. And I have said, since the day that I was elevated into the national scene and international scene, this is for us. But people didn't want to hear that."
