MSNBC’s Barnicle Suggests Grilling of Cecile Richards on Her $600K Salary Was Sexist

Barnicle: ‘Can you recall ever grilling a guy about his salary?’

BARNICLE: “Congresswoman, we played an extensive clip, earlier in the program from the hearing yesterday. And I’d like to ask you about one extended period of questioning that went on, between a couple of your colleagues and Cecile Richards about her salary. You said in the Ways and Means Committee. Can you recall ever grilling a guy about his salary, the way she was grilled about her salary, how much she made?”

BLACK: “As a matter of fact, we have had people before our Ways and Means Committee. Where we’ve ask them about them salary. And — and that has happened in the past. So this is not something totally unusual. I wouldn’t say that it happens every week here. But that is part of what we do, as a Congress. Our responsibility is investigation. And that’s our role and our responsibility to do that, especially when taxpayer dollars are being used to fund something. We have to make sure we’re doing what we need to do for hardworking taxpayers, to make sure their money has spent in the most appropriate way.”
