Chuck Todd: Clinton’s Convenience Argument for Private E-mail Is ‘the Least Believable’

‘I still think that the most logical explanation is that she was trying to get out of congressional action and Freedom of Information Act request’

GUTHRIE: “Chuck Todd, NBC’s political director and moderator of Meet the Press. Chuck, good morning to you.”
TODD: “Good morning.”
GUTHRIE: “Taking this whole e-mail controversy, I mean essential accusation, what people are worried about is, did she mishandle classified information? With this latest batch of 7,000 plus e-mails, is there a smoking gun on that issue?”
TODD: “No there is not. There is not [indecipherable] knowingly. And remember, knowingly is the key word here. –[crosstalk] -- Did she knowingly passed around classified information in an unclassified setting. There is no evidence, just suggest that that story doesn’t hold up. Must remember, these are e-mails she chose to release. OK. These are still e-mails she chose to release, and gave the State Department. So, there’s always that caveat. The second thing here is, while she may be out of legal jeopardy, as far as this release is concerned, there’s still the political aspect. And I have to tell you, the most damning e-mail in here is the one from Huma [Abedin], that says, hey, IT didn’t know they had your e-mail in here. There was an e-mail in there. She couldn’t get email at the time. And they go, they didn’t know about your private e-mail set-up, this is the State Department IT. And it is a reminder, how is this more convenient, to have your own home brew system? Who wants -- who has IT at home? Isn’t it easier if anybody out there to get your e-mail via work? So, I actually think that excuse is the one that’s the least believable. I still think the most logical explanation is she was trying to get out of Congressional action and Freedom of Information Act requests.”
