Ian Bremmer: ‘We’re Screwed on Iran’

BREMMER: "We’re screwed on Iran. We are. The Biden administration wants to be back in JCPOA. The Obama administration with Biden as the vice president got it done with our allies, with the Chinese and the Russians too. Trump killed it unilaterally, against the protestations of every other signatory of the JCPOA when the Iranians were fully in compliance at that point, something that Rex Tillerson admitted, the secretary of state, at the time they were in compliance. Biden wants to come back in. We can’t get it done. And as a consequence, Iran is becoming the threshold nuclear state and the Israelis are deeply upset about that. So the potential that we end up in confrontation with Iran is real because of the Americans shooting themselves in the foot because of the lack of consistency of U.S. foreign policy from one administration to the next. And you will hear that from everyone attending the New Economy Forum from the region. How do we know that when the Americans make a commitment that they’re able to stick with the commitment? That’s a problem."
