Robert Gibbs: Biden Has To Get on the Phone with the Teachers’ Unions and Make Sure that Vaccine Mandates Happen

GIBBS: "I’m very encouraged to hear about regular school testing and setting that up so that, one, we can protect teachers and students that are in classrooms, but also protect the ability to keep them in classrooms and pull out those that are sick because they test positive and quarantine them without having to shut everything down. I think the American people today will listen for what is new in this speech. This can’t be the same set of remarks because we’re at a different phase in this pandemic. We’ve got to figure out how to reach the vaccine resistant and the vaccine hesitant, and I think Kerry’s reporting on those teachers in Miami, if 85% of those teachers are vaccinated, that means 15% aren't. I think Joe Biden has to get on the phone with the teachers’ unions and make sure that those vaccine mandates happen. It’s time to sort of put aside the carrots and get out the sticks because we know vaccinating people is almost assuredly going to keep them out of the hospital and keep them from dying."
