CNN’s Chris Cuomo: Obama’s Handshake With Castro ‘About Something Bigger’: ‘Reconciliation’ (Mediaite)

CNN anchor Chris Cuomo observed on Tuesday that President Barack Obama’s handshake with Cuban President Raul Castro at Nelson Mandela’s memorial service in South Africa is likely to be dissected politically for some time. He said, however, that the handshake should be viewed in light of the larger themes of “reconciliation” that characterized Mandela’s life.

“The handshake was obviously a huge moment,” Cuomo said. “But not to be misunderstood, the handshake with Raul Castro, the president of Cuba, we believe was President Obama showing respect to Nelson Mandela and the occasion of today — the spirit of reconciliation.”
