FRYER: "In recent weeks the CIA had been warning about a potentially rapid takeover by the Taliban and total collapse of the Afghan military and government, but we don’t know if that message ever got to the White House, right?"
MEMOLI: "Yeah, that’s right, Joe. And really the Washington blame game is in full swing at this point. You have military officials saying they wanted to begin evacuating our Afghan partners as early as May, but they were prevented from doing so by the White House. You have the intelligence community saying they were shocked at the speed at which the military completed that drawdown within Afghanistan — that was mostly done by July, it contributed to our lack of understanding of just how quickly the Taliban could take over the country. You have the State Department blaming Congress for the delay in processing these visas now.”
