EXCERPT:

GEIST: “Meanwhile, in recent weeks, CIA intelligence assessments began to warn in increasingly stark terms about the potential for a rapid and total collapse of the Afghan military and government. According to 'The New York Times,' just last month, intelligence reports were questioning whether any Afghan security forces would muster serious resistance to the Taliban and whether the government could hold on to Kabul. The 'Times' notes, intelligence agencies predicted, should the Taliban begin seizing cities, a cascading collapse could happen rapidly and the Afghan security forces were at high risk of falling apart, as they have.“
