VP Harris: Infrastructure Is the Things You Just Need to Get Where You Need To Go, ‘So Let’s Talk About Why Child Care Is a Part of That’

‘The way I define infrastructure, one of my definitions is the things you just need to get where you need to go’

EXCERPT:

HARRIS: “You each are running very successful innovative businesses, with a variety of talent skillsets and background in terms of the work and the perspective that you have brought to your businesses. I'd like to hear from each of you as though you are talking to the people in Washington, D.C. to explain why child care is part of infrastructure. And let me just tell you, what I define infrastructure, one of my definitions is the things you just need to get where you need to go. So let's talk about why child care is a part of that. For example, it is — it is our intention to say that no working families should pay more than seven percent of their income in child care. So you don't have to put it on your credit card. It is our plan to talk about universal pre-K, also for a number of reasons, but in particular also understanding that our youngest children, if they can benefit from an educational program at that age, not only daycare, they are much more likely to succeed in their academic life through high school and beyond.”
