AG Lynch on Chicago Violence: ‘An Example of What We Are Seeing’ in Several Major Cities

‘Chicago is an example of what we are seeing in terms of an uptick in violence in several of our major cities and within our cities certain neighborhoods within our cities’

RUSH TRANSCRIPT:

MITCHELL: "What do we do about the spike in violence in Chicago and the horrific toll, especially in the minority community in Chicago?"
LYNCH: "Well, Chicago is an example of what we are seeing in terms of an uptick in violence in several of our major cities and within our cities certain neighborhoods within our cities. We have to look at this from all fronts. Law enforcement needs me information about what's happening. It's a very serious problem. When there's a kind of violence that keeps people from living their lives, from enjoying their communities, when they live in fear. You essentially are shutting off all types of opportunity. You are telling those young people that their lives are subject to being snuffed out at a moment's notice. That's telling them that they don't matter. That's telling them that they're not important and we cannot do that for any of our children."
