Flashback: CDC Dir. Redfield Says Covid Would Be ‘Under Control’ in 4-6-8 Weeks if We All Wore Masks

‘I think if we could get everybody to wear a mask right now I think in four, six, eight weeks we could bring this epidemic under control’

EXCERPT:

REDFIELD: “I think the data is clearly there that masking works whether it’s a face-covering, whether it’s a simple surgical mask, or whether it’s basically — obviously, masks that are used in the clinical setting. I think — I think we’re at the stage that whether it’s the MMWR that we had — that we had out about the stylists that wore the mask and we didn’t see transmission, whether it’s our household studies that we have now looking at the role of masking versus non-masking in different households. So I think that’s really the point. I tried to say this earlier this week. I was in North Carolina yesterday. You know, I really do believe if the American public all embraced masking now, and we really did it, you know, rigorously, maybe more like  the German citizens — the Germans say everyone isolated, I think they got a lot of cooperation. You know, when we probably isolated, we probably had less than half the American public do it. I think if we could get everybody to wear a mask right now, I really do think over the next 4, 6, 8 weeks we could bring this epidemic under control."
