Sen. Blumenthal: We Need To Know What the W.H.’s Influence Was in Delaying Deployment of National Guard

‘I remember asking a few of my colleagues, where is the National Guard?’

EXCERPT:

BLUMENTHAL: “That’s a key question, Willie. And what the next steps should be are to call to the Congress, not only Ryan McCarthy, the Secretary of the Army and the acting Defense Secretary Christopher Miller but also to look at what the White House’s influence was in those hours, 3 hours and 19 minutes that the National Guard waited, and they waited and waited while the Capitol was being stormed. You know, we were in a secure location. Almost all 100 of us. And I remember asking a few of my colleagues, where is the National Guard? The question wasn’t obscure or difficult and that kind of wait literally caused injuries, possibly lives. And I think there were multiple failures but that one certainly is egregious and it deserves further investigation aimed not only at the Pentagon but also at the then officials in the White House.”
