MSNBC Medical Guest: There Might Be Side Effects of Vaccines, But You Should Think About Benefits

‘Messaging is critical and part of that needs to be transparency and honesty’

EXCERPT:

PATEL: “Yeah, messaging is critical. And I think part of that messaging really needs to be transparency and honesty. When I read through the FDA's packet of data, there are reactions, they’re mostly localized injection reactions at the site of the injection, and a lot of you will be familiar with some of that feeling that you got after the flu shot where you had an ache in that arm, some of you may have even got some low-grade fevers and chills. I think we need to be clear about the fact that there might be side effects, but that does not mean that you should not think about the benefits of this vaccine. Mika, you mentioned 95% efficacy. Willie, that translates to everybody who gets vaccinated has a 95% relative risk reduction of mild, moderate and severe Covid. That truly translates to saving lives.“
