Ignatius on Yemen: ‘Best Efforts’ U.S. Made in Any Mid East Country ‘Came to Naught’

‘It just shows there are countries which are coming apart, and we don’t have the tools to put them back together’

David Ignatius on Yemen: "Best Efforts U.S. Made In Any Mideastern Country Came To Naught’ (RealClearPolitics)

DAVID IGNATIUS: Yemen tragically is a place where the U.S. did try to have that strong embassy team, they reached out to the different groups, tries to sponsor dialogue, the U.S. military reached out to try to train Yemeni soldiers to fight this fight themselves, and it all crumpled. The best efforts the U.S. has made, I think in any of these middle eastern countries came to naught. We have no embassy there, very few weapons. It just shows, there are countries which are coming apart, and we don't have the tools to put them back together.
