Van Hollen: Putin Is Trying to Help Trump Because He Knows that If Biden’s Elected There Will Be Consequences

‘Donald Trump refuses to make that statement and Mitch McConnell refuses to pass the legislation that would accomplish that’

EXCERPT:

VAN HOLLEN: "And really, Mitch McConnell needs to talk to the FBI Director Chris Wray, who just this week testified in front of the House about those continued Russian efforts. If Senator McConnell wants to actually do something, he should join us in passing what is called the DETER Act, which is legislation that would say right now, up front, to Vladimir Putin, 'If we catch you interfering in our elections, there will be a big price to pay.' Right now, Putin has no price to pay when he interferes. We need to make it clear there will be serious sanctions against sectors of his economy, the banking sector, the energy sector. Mitch McConnell, he's refused to allow a vote on that. Vice President Biden was very clear last night in Pennsylvania. He said that if he’s elected, Vladimir Putin knows there will be consequences, there will be penalties for interfering in our elections. Donald Trump refuses to make that statement and Mitch McConnell refuses to pass the legislation that would accomplish that."
