Judge Nap: Sell USPS ‘to the Highest Bidder’

‘And in a couple of years you will see it operating the way private entities and private businesses do’

EXCERPT:

NAPOLITANO: "I have nothing against the postal unions. I think a lot of those people work very, very hard and are very dedicated to delivering the mail. And the Post Office may be able to deal with rain and heat and gloom of night, as their motto says, but what they can’t deal with is competition. And nothing improves the product better than competition, the laws of supply and demand. It lowers prices and it enhances services. As long as Congress won’t let anybody compete with the Post Office by charging less than the Post Office does for first-class mail, we’re going to be stuck with this inefficient, lethargic, 'who wants to rely on it' entity. Sell it to the highest bidder. Sell it under terms that will require the highest bidder to continue operating it in a competitive mode, and in a couple of years you will see it operating the way private entities and private businesses do.”
