Trump on Christie: ‘I Certainly Wouldn’t Be Afraid of Anybody’ in the 2016 Race

‘He did say on another show that the only one tougher than him is Trump’

HASSELBECK: “Mr. Trump, what about Chris Christie? He is -- he said he's actually not afraid to challenge you, that you -- because you're set to announce tomorrow -- you should be taken seriously. He loves how you treat his family but he will take you on if necessary. Listen to what he had to say about you.”

[clip starts]

CHRISTIE: “Donald is a serious guy, and he has been a good friend of mine over the years, and only Donald will be able to determine if he really wants to be a candidate and really push. If he does, Donald has been able to sell almost anything over the course of time. And he fact is, you have to take him seriously if he decides to run. We'll see what happens, though. I like him. He has been a good friend to me and Mary Pat over the years. If I decide to get into this race, George, I’ll take anybody on. I think you know that.”

[clip ends]

HASSELBECK: “What do you think about that?”

TRUMP: “Well, first of all, I think it was very nice. I have been friend with his Chris and Mary Pat and I think they're terrific people. He did say on another show that the only one tougher than him is Trump and that's what we need in this country because we are being pushed around like a bunch of babies. I consider that a great compliment. Some people probably wouldn't, but I do consider it. Now, he's been very nice to me. It's hard to attack somebody that's been so nice. I could tell you, I certainly wouldn't be afraid of anybody in this race, and we will see what happens tomorrow at 11:00 at Trump Tower. I'm going to make a big announcement. I think a lot of people are going to be very happy."
