Ex. Rep. Katie Hill Likens Herself to a Victim of Sexual Assault, Blames Sexism

‘We have to stand strong’

EXCERPT:

MITCHELL: "It’s a difficult story, but there’s no denying that women in politics in particular are faced with an incredible double standard. We’re seeing that even in the vetting of these extraordinary women being considered for the vice presidential ticket.”
HILL: “Absolutely. And that’s one of the biggest reasons I decided to write the book, is that I feel like my experiences are, you know, it’s just mine, but they’re so universal across — you know, whether it’s experiences around sexual assault or an abusive relationship or even the way that power manifests and how women are treated once they are in power. And -- and so we need to have a plan to dismantle those -- those, you know, systemic blockades that women are facing. And the only way that we’re ultimately going to get there to true equality, as we’re facing 100 years of securing the right to vote, is to elect more women, and so this vice presidential pick is so -- so monumental, so important, and I hope it causes us to reflect on the ways that women are treated differently and it'll open up pathways moving forward.”
