MSNBC Guest on Schools Opening: We Have To Do the Hard Work Now

‘You can’t just set a goal and a timeline unless you’re also willing to say let’s do the hard work to make that happen’

EXCERPT:

WEN: “You’ve got hot spots right now in Arizona, Texas, California, among others, where the level of infection in the community is one in a hundred. So if you have a school that highways a thousand people, on day one you walk in and there are ten people who are asymptomatic with infection and who are infecting others. There are outbreaks that are going to happen that first day potentially and you are going to have to shut down the schools again. And so we have to do the hard work now. And probably in the summer we’re going to have to close down, as Dr. Osterholm said, and maybe close down bars and restaurants in many of these states in order to suppress the level of infection and allow schools to open back in the fall. And the president should be doing everything that he can to support schools reopening, to protect the health and well-being of students and really importantly, teachers and staff and their families and not threaten or shame these schools that are trying their best to safely reopen."
