Senate Dems Say Biden Shouldn’t Release List of Potential Supreme Court Justices Like Trump Did in 2016

‘I’m not advising him on that but I wouldn’t recommend it’

"I'm not advising him on that but I wouldn't recommend it," said Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse (D-R.I.) on a conference call Wednesday where senators expressed opposition to Republicans appointing conservative federal judges.

"I agree with Sheldon," Schumer said.

"So do I," said Sen. Debbie Stabenow (D-Mich.). "I have great confidence and I know my colleagues feel the same, great confidence in Joe Biden's capacity to put forward judges that are competent, that have the best interests of the American people at heart, that will care about the Constitution and an independent judiciary and basically begin to unwind what we are seeing that the Republicans have been doing."

Schumer responded to a question about Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) saying last year that he would attempt to move a Supreme Court nomination through the Senate if a vacancy occurred before the November election.

"McConnell will do anything to put right-wingers on the courts," he said. "I have no doubt he will do everything he can to put right-wingers on the court and on the Supreme Court. One of the main things that could happen is public pressure. I think there would be a tremendous amount the closer you get to the election."
