Hawaii Democrat Smashes Homeless Peoples’ Shopping Carts

Sledgehammer-Wielding State Rep. Smashes Homeless People’s Carts to ‘Clean Up the Streets’ (Mediaite)

Hawaii State Representative Tom Brower (D) has been on a two-week quest to return or destroy as many “abandoned” shopping carts as he can, an effort he claims is meant to help “clean up the streets” and discourage theft, but that critics say is terrorizing homeless people.

“I got tired of telling people I’m trying to pass laws,” he told Hawaii News Now. “I want to do something practical that will really clean up the streets.”

For the past fortnight Brower has been roaming Waikiki with a sledgehammer, hunting for shopping carts. Some he said he returned to grocery stores; others got their wheels bashed in so that they couldn’t be pushed around.

Mental health professionals are not amused.
