Chris Hayes: Lesson of #MeToo Is Not that We Believe Every Allegation, but Take Them Seriously and Not Drag Women Through the Mud

‘Take accusations seriously, to swiftly investigate the facts surrounding them as best as one can’

RUSH EXCERPT:

HAYES: “That’s not the way I think about analyzing this story but it’s an honest expression how some view the trade off and stakes here and the third category, one that was the most disquieting to me, a whole lot of people pointing to various aspects of reade’s character or writings or politics she’s not proof or credible, she didn’t report this sooner or said nice things about Joe Biden, her former boss at one point so how could he have assaulted her or supported Bernie Sanders so this is a political hit job or says things people find strange on social media, much of it adding up to you can’t trust this woman. Those are the things that have been used forever against women making these types of allegations. To me, the lesson of the me, too movement is not that you believe every allegation, of course not. Take allegations seriously and support the facrounding them while leaving aside the age-old instincts to drag the women that make those claims through the mud.e women that make those claims through the mud.”
