Bryan Dean Wright on Socialism, Bernie: It’s Like My Buddy’s Dating a Crazy Girl Who Will Give Him the Clap

‘We have a disaster in the party and no way to fix it’

EXCERPT:

WRIGHT: "Yeah. I tell you, I have mixed feelings about where we're at today because on one hand I want to gloat a little bit, but really, it's horrifying, isn't it? You know, I feel like I've got this buddy, that's like the Democratic Party, he's dating a crazy girl. I'm like, 'All right, friend, I will make up the couch for you when she burns down your house and gives you the clap.' So here we are today, a year-and-a-half later we have a disaster in the party and there's no way to fix it. Let me tell you, when I wrote a piece I highlighted strategy document that the DSA wrote in 2012, and 3 things stood out at me then as now. First, the Democratic socialists make very clear what they are doing here. They know that they have a wrecked ideology, they acknowledged it. And what they are saying to the American people is, 'Hey, we are going reboot ourselves by offering you free stuff, because who doesn’t like free stuff?' Free Medicare, Medicare-for-all, free housing, jobs guarantee, so that’s their way in.”
