Schwarzenegger: What Do You Do with 60 FEMA Trailers for the Homeless in California?

‘You have to have a big vision’

EXCERPT:

SCHWARZENEGGER: "You and I, we talked about this several times, that sometimes politicians have the problem that they don’t have a big vision. They don’t want to get a big vision because it is safer to just do something little because you can get it done easier. I remember the times when we were sitting in Sacramento and we were hit by the global recession, and all of a sudden we had to deal with 10, $20 billion dollar deficit. And we were having the budget negotiations, and we were now a hundred days late with the budget. And then all of a sudden someone wanted to go and pass a blueberry commission bill, to officially create a law that we could create a blueberry commission. I said, 'Really?! We’re sitting here in $20 billion dollar deficit and the budget has not been done. Why don't we work on the budget, solely, and just focus on that and get it done? The people of California deserve it.' Politicians have the tendency of doing things in incremental  steps, I don’t have any patience for that because I think that — it is so wonderful when you create a big vision, but so many times it goes the other way and they just start thinking little. You know, for instance, in California, all of a sudden, they got, from the state, 60 trailers for the homeless. What do you do with 60 trailers for the homeless when you have 60,000 homeless in L.A.? What do you do with 60 trailers? You have to have a big vision and you have to really think very quickly and get everyone together. If everyone works together, I think they can really solve this problem."
